Dr. Péter Kunos is an economist and senior community leader with decades of experience in government, finance, and Jewish institutional life. For the past 12 years, he has served as CEO of the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (MAZSIHISZ) and its largest member body, the Budapest Jewish Community (BZSH). In this role, he has carried responsibility “from cradle to grave” for the maintenance and operation of all communal institutions, including the Jewish hospital, university, museum and archives, schools, social and cultural services, as well as the supervision of 1,600 cemeteries nationwide. His leadership reflects a lifelong commitment to ensuring that Jewish heritage in Hungary is preserved, sustained, and passed on to future generations.
Joining the board of this foundation reflects his commitment to carrying that mission further. With decades of experience in building institutions and safeguarding community life, Dr. Kunos sees his role as helping to strengthen Jewish heritage for the next generation, ensuring that memory and identity are preserved not only within Hungary but as part of a broader, international effort. For him, this work is both professional and personal: a way of giving back to his community while preparing a stronger foundation for the future.
