Tamás Mester

Tamás is the President of the Budapest Jewish Community (BZSH) and Vice President of the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (Mazsihisz). He comes from a family where Jewish traditions, synagogue life, and religious practice were always a natural part of everyday life, and he continues this commitment as a leader of Jewish communal institutions in Hungary.

He has been active in Jewish community life for more than twenty years, with the goal of strengthening the community and developing its extensive institutional network. Beyond his communal roles, he holds a degree in business studies and commercial administration, is certified as an internal auditor and quality management leader, and since 1996 has run his own advertising company while also serving as marketing director of a publishing house. A former athlete, he is the founder and captain of the Maccabi VAC water polo division, which has earned numerous medals at international competitions and was awarded the Michael Kevehazi Award at the 2019 Maccabi European Games.

Tamás’s personal commitment is deeply shaped by his family history. His parents were Holocaust survivors who passed on to him the love of faith and tradition, values he now strives to share with his twin sons. Inspired by this legacy, his leadership is guided by a desire to build unity, strengthen Jewish identity, and ensure that Budapest’s Jewish community continues to thrive for future generations.
