Over time, the synagogue’s prayer books became worn from decades of devoted use. When they deteriorated beyond repair, they were respectfully buried by the community, as is customary. As a result, only a limited number of usable prayer books remain. To ensure that communal prayer continues with dignity, new siddurim and machzorim are needed. Priority is given to machzorim for the three pilgrimage festivals – Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot – when the synagogue fills with congregants observing these sacred days together.
