Hungarian Jewish Roots Foundation, Inc. (“we,” “our,” “us”) operates this website to preserve Jewish heritage and strengthen community life in Hungary. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data responsibly.
Comments
When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam.
An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors may download and extract location data from images on the site.
Cookies
- If you leave a comment, you may opt‑in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience. These last one year.
- Visiting our login page sets a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

- If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved in your browser. It includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.

Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). Embedded content behaves as if you visited the other site directly. These sites may collect data, use cookies, embed third‑party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the content.
Who We Share Your Data With
- If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
- We may share limited data with our hosting provider (e.g., GoDaddy) and analytics services (e.g., Google Analytics) to maintain and improve site performance.
- Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
How Long We Retain Your Data
- Comments and metadata are retained indefinitely to recognize and approve follow‑up comments automatically.
- For registered users, we store personal information in their profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except usernames). Administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you have an account or have left comments, you may request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you provided.
