Creation of a Memorial Site at the Ruins of the Former Nagykálló Synagogue

One of the most significant sites of Nagykálló’s historical and religious heritage is the location of its former synagogue, which from 1800 served as the spiritual and communal center of the local Jewish community. The synagogue ultimately fell into ruin in the 1970s.

Today, the site bears no plaque or official marker to commemorate the centuries long Jewish presence, the destruction of the community, and the memory of its martyrs. This project seeks to establish a dignified memorial at the site, ensuring that its history is properly acknowledged and preserved.
