Prof. Dr. Andor Grósz

Dr. Grósz is the President of the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (Mazsihisz) and one of Hungary’s most distinguished Jewish community leaders. A physician, professor, and retired brigadier general, he brings decades of leadership experience in medicine, academia, and public service to his role guiding the country’s largest Jewish organization.He graduated from the St. Petersburg Military Medical Academy and went on to a long career in the Hungarian Armed Forces, serving as medical chief and retiring with the rank of brigadier general. He directed both the Kecskemét Aviation Hospital and the Budapest Military Hospital, founded the Department of Aviation and Space Medicine at the University of Szeged, and was appointed professor of the institution in 2010. A recipient of multiple national honors, including the Knight’s Cross and Middle Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, he is internationally recognized in aeronautical and space medicine. Since 2015, he has also chaired the Board of Trustees of the Holocaust Documentation Center and Memorial Collection.

Born into a traditional Jewish family, Dr. Grósz has carried his parents’ legacy of faith, resilience, and community belonging throughout his life. As President of the Jewish Community of Kecskemét, he oversaw the renovation of the city’s Jewish cemetery and ceremonial hall, as well as the restoration of its historic synagogue. Today, as President of Mazsihisz, he is committed to strengthening Neolog Judaism in Hungary by uniting divided groups, supporting both religious and secular Jews, empowering youth, and ensuring that Jewish life remains vibrant for generations to come. For him, this mission is both a responsibility and a final chance to preserve the place of Neology in Hungarian Jewish history.
