Many graves in the cemetery remain undocumented, and numerous Hebrew inscribed headstones have become difficult to read. In the absence of a complete cadastral register and archival records, there is a responsibility to properly identify and document these graves, preserving the memory and legacy of the community – including the 1,200 members who were deported.

In many provincial towns where Jewish communities were destroyed during the Holocaust, abandoned cemeteries remain the only visible reminder of the once-vibrant Jewish presence. In recognition of this reality, the restoration of deteriorating gravestones and, in several locations, the repair of cemetery fencing has become necessary.
